NEERVELY ARASAKESARI TEMPLE

Neervely Arasakesari Temple is situated about North of 8 k.m post on the Jaffna- point pedro road. The temple must has been built by “Arasakesari”. The minister of Jaffna kingdom.

Pararajasekaran is a main king of Jaffna kingdom. (1478-1519). He was a successful king of Jaffna. (kingdom- Nallur) The Pararajasekar king’s Brother Segarajasekaran.  Arasakesari a Nephew of the king was an Sanskrit scholar who translated  “kaviraj” Kalidasa’s sanskrit classic entitled “Raguvamsam” in to tamil.

The Arasakesari (Minister of Jaffna kingdom) had the “Rajaveethi”. A roadway running from nallur north- wards, to be examined and the sacred spring was located, and a “theerththam” was built. By the site, of course a Temple (Ganesa & Easvar) was founded. In 1620, the portugese invaded Jaffna. Portugese’s general pillip de olivera was responsible for destroying many Hindu Temples.

In 1800 the British captured Jaffna from the Potugese and Dutch. Sri.Kadirkamar Iyampillai took  initiative build  the  Arasakesari Temple. Brahmasri. Kumarasamih kurukal became the first prist to conduct pujas in the temple. The temple is often referred to as just “Sempaddu pillayar Devasthanam”.

The Temple annual festival was conducted  around August and september for Eleven days. Daily Four poojas are conducted. These are Usthkala pooja 6.00(a.m), Kalasanthi pooja 8.00(a.m), Mathyannika pooja12.00 (Noon), sajankala pooja 7.00(p.m).

Apart from the Moolasthanam “Rajasimma Ganesar, there are shrines of the vaitheesvar (lingam), and Balambikai ambal, subrammanyar, dakshinamoorthi, Natarajar, panchamuka ganapathi, Navakkiragam and also of course of bairavar.

Ganesa- Skantha- Siva- Vishnu are surounded by the divine family. In the vicinity  temples are situated for vaikkattharavai, Skanthsuwamy, selva Gathirkama suwamy, Kamakshi-Meenakshi- Kali Ambal  temples. There are other religious and cultural organisations such as the Neervely Attiaar Hindu college, 64 nayanmar madam, Sri ganesha nursery, Sri Ganesha community center & library,Sri Ganesha Hindu Ethics School, C.C.T.M School, these centers offer social cultural religions services to the community.
